Support for Learning
Staff
Mrs D. Murray
Mrs A Wood
Rationale
The SfL department acknowledges “most of our children and young people respond well to opportunities for learning…we also know that without help some will not benefit fully from education.” (Forward: Code of Practice 2005).
It is therefore the case that all staff, from subject teachers to management, will be involved in the support for learning of all pupils throughout the school.
Some pupils may have additional support needs for a short period of time, while others may have additional support needs for prolonged periods.
Aim
The aim of the SfL department is to “ensure that all children and young people receive the additional support required to meet their individual needs and to help them make the most of their education.”
We aim to provide a flexible support system, which will support effective learning for children of all abilities within the school to ensure they achieve their full potential to enable them to be “confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors to society and at work.”
This aim is in line with the Additional Support for Learning Act (2005) and the aspirations of Doon Academy Improvement Plan (2005-2008) where pupils are “given the opportunity to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors to society and at work.”
