Charity Fundraising
Children in Need 2007
The school took part in BBC Children In Need on Friday, November 17.
This year through the Talent Show and other activities we raised the fantastic sum of
£700!
Poppy Appeal 2007
The pupils in the Supported Learning Centre were responsible for the distribution and the collection of the Earl Haig Appeal. The sum of £724.50 was raised. A big thank you to the shopkeepers who displayed the poppies and to the people of Patna and Dalmellington who gave so generously.
Art Silent Auction 2007
The silent auction this year made £400.
School Fundraising
Due to the geographical location of Doon Academy, transporting pupils on curricular excursions or team events proves to be very expensive. From time to time fundraising events are necessary with virtually all money raised being spent on our pupils - subsidising excursions, sports teams, school clubs and residential stays.
We greatly appreciate the support of parents and the community for our fundraising events. Our sponsored walk again this year raised £2,000. We are also delighted to announce the formation of the ‘Friends of Doon Academy’ association.
The association was formed last year by parents and staff who were interested in arranging social events which would involve not only the school but also the wider community. The funds raised by these events will be used to support and enhance the students’ education in a variety of ways.
At the last Christmas Dance for example, the price of the tickets was greatly reduced due to the generosity of ‘Friends’ who organised all the catering. This proved to be a very popular and enjoyable event with record numbers attending the annual dance and buffet.
Social events which have already been organised by ‘Friends’ are:
- A very successful Race Night in Dalmellington
- A very entertaining and enjoyable Beetle Drive in Rankinston
Future events will include a Bingo Evening and a Quiz Night.
The association are looking for new members who would be willing to assist in the organisation of these evenings or could come up with good ideas for future activities involving the whole community.
Please contact Una Newall or Tricia Paterson at the school or speak to Helen Lohel, Community Learning & Development.
